5 Alternative Fourth of July Activities

Rain is in the forecast this Fourth of July, which might put a damper on your plans to watcch a fireworks display. If you’re not in the mood to brave the elements to see fireworks, check out these other events you and your family can partake in.

1. Grateful Dead: Fare Thee Well Tour at Franklin Theatre-Join the Franklin Theatre for a live simulcast of the Grateful Dead’s concert from Soldier Field in Chicago, IL on Saturday, July 4th. Enjoy the Dead on the theatre’s beautiful 23 foot HD screen in surround sound. Standard concessions including beer, wine, mixed drinks, popcorn, pizza and other snacks are available. No outside food or drink allowed.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Grateful Dead, the four original members — Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh, and Bob Weir — will reunite at Chicago’s Soldier Field, nearly 20 years to the day of the last Grateful Dead concert, which took place at the same venue. “Fare Thee Well: Celebrating 50 Years of Grateful Dead” will occur over three nights on July 3*, 4*, and 5*, 2015, marking the original members’ last-ever performance together. The band will be joined by Trey Anastasio (guitar), Jeff Chimenti (keyboards), and Bruce Hornsby (piano). The group will perform two sets of music each night.

2. Go Shopping at CoolSprings Galleria

If you’re a sports fan, there a few big sports events airing on TV.

The Women’s World Cup continues Saturday at 3pm on FOX Sports with the match for 3rd place, Germany faces England (the finals take place Sunday night at 6pm with the US facing Japan.)

Wimbledon finishes its first week of play. Matches will air on ESPN from 7a-4p. More 4th of July Stories
