Saturn Parkway Extension

From Jamie Paige, Spring Hill Communications Officer:

Gov. Bill Haslam announced recently that TDOT will begin the right-of-way acquisition process in 2017 for the $20 million project to extend Saturn Parkway north to Beechcroft Road. Beechcroft also will be widened to three lanes along with intersection improvements and a grade-separated railway crossing. The right-of-way process is expected to take about 1 1/2 years, depending on how many tracts of land are involved.

This is both a safety project and a State Industrial Access (SIA) project targeted at accommodating GM’s continued expansion, and the general economic development of that industrial area, by improving access for trucks delivering parts. Currently, these heavy trucks are having to use the main local roadways through Spring Hill, which causes traffic and road damage issues.

The Saturn Parkway/Beechcroft project is also intended to help with operational, logistics and transportation issues with the two new auto part manufacturing facilities – Magna and Comprehensive Logistics Inc. (CLI) – on Beechcroft Road that deliver parts to the GM plant. The developer of Magna and CLI, which is Northpoint Development, also has plans to expand the rear portion of the Comprehensive Logistics building to accommodate another related, but yet to be announced, manufacturing facility.
