Tennessee Soccer Club (TSC) hosted its first annual 24-Hour Soccer-A-Thon, Feb. 26-28 at the Robert A. Ring Indoor Arena in Franklin.

According to TSC’s Event Coordinator, Jimmy Drain, the event was a huge success and the first organized fundraiser by TSC in the club’s four-year history. The goal was to create more awareness of the sport within the community while raising funds for TSC and Special Olympics Tennessee, who were partners in the event.

The 24-Hour Soccer-A-Thon allowed all TSC players, which consists of boys and girls from age groups U7 to U18 to raise donations, with a portion of the proceeds going to Special Olympics Tennessee.

The festivities kicked-off at 4p.m. Friday with an open playtime. Not only did TSC soccer players participate, but more than 40 adults did as well. Friday’s portion of the 24-hour event lasted until midnight. Saturday’s non-stop soccer action went from 8a.m. until midnight.  TSC also held a soccer clinic for Special Olympics of Tennessee athletes on Saturday morning.

“We’d like to thank Tennessee Soccer Club for their support of Special Olympics and including us in their Soccer-A-Thon.  TSC did a fantastic job working with our athletes during the clinic,” says Sean Stake, marketing manager for Special Olympics of Tennessee.  “Our athletes and coaches all had a wonderful time and left with a new interest in soccer.”

“We are very excited about our new relationship with Special Olympics and we hope to further their involvement in the coming months,” says Drain.

“Donations are still coming in, but initial numbers show that so far we raised more than $25,000 from the 24-Hour Soccer-A-Thon and it was a big success,” added Drain. “TSC plans to use the funds to expand its growth and development in the soccer community both locally and nationally.”

Entering its spring 2016 season, TSC, which is headquartered in Franklin, is a competitive youth soccer organization that currently has more than 1,400 registered players.
